THE DRIVER OF THE FUTURE

Manni Group has adopted a Sustainability Policy, which is meant as an inclusive and collaborative process between companies in the same industry or in complementary supply chains and as a continuous investment to improve the economic, social and environmental performance of the entire system. It involves adopting a whole new Organisational Model, along with a Code of Ethics, which encourages the participation of both top management and the internal organisation while precisely defining responsibilities, roles and processes through cyclical planning, implementation and verification.

Circular economy as a business model

With the aim of accelerating the adoption of a green and circular economic model by its own supply chain and the entire sector, Manni Group is focusing its business strategy on adopting the most innovative and efficient technologies, as well as those in line with accountable safety, quality and sustainability criteria. These strategies are accompanied by initiatives such as sharing specific waste management projects under the "Beyond Raw Materials" approach for a 100% circular steel sector and innovative business projects such as the development of "almost carbon neutral" housing solutions, focusing on the highest sustainability, safety and efficiency standards. Finally, the company pays great attention to the evolution of research and the development of alternative insulating materials that combine performance and sustainability.

Based on an initial analysis carried out on 60% of the steel purchased in 2016, more than 65% already comes from recycled scrap, which the company intends to increase.

Emission impact assessment

Manni Group has set itself the objective of contributing to the fight against climate change by putting into place an ambitious and scientifically-based plan to reduce GHG (Greenhouse Gas) emissions over the next 5 years.

To date, the objective has taken into account emissions for the consumption of fossil fuels (Scope 1) and those deriving from electricity generation (Scope 2), but in 2017 it will also be extended to indirect GHG emissions (Scope 3)..

From 2011 onwards, Manni Group installed 8 photovoltaic systems on some of its plants, with a total of 4.46 MW of power. On the whole they produced over 14 GWh of clean energy for self-consumption purposes, avoiding the emission of nearly 10,000 tons of CO2, which is much more than the amount the Group itself emits in a whole business year.

Moreover, Manni Group has been studying new projects of sustainable logistics and eco-friendly mobility, both for goods and personnel.

Manni Sipre is responsible for 24% of the Group's current emissions and over time the company increased the efficiency of its systems. Indeed, in 2016, for each ton of steel sold 37% less C02 was released compared to the average value of the three-year period from 2010 to 2012.

Manni Inox, is making a major contribution to this transition, mainly thanks to its investments in renewable energy. Compared to the three-year period from 2010 to 2012, Scope 1 and 2 emissions dropped by more than 28%.

In line with the expansion and internationalization process of Manni Group, between 2013 and 2015, Isopan inaugurated 3 new manufacturing companies in Germany, Russia and Mexico and today contributes to 65% of Group emissions. In the coming months, a new production line will also be set up in Romania. Once the production of the latest startups has come into effect, emissions per square meter of product panel are expected to reach the average values recorded before 2013.

Action Plan

Considering the results of the analysis on the emissions, the first measures to achieve the reduction target have been implemented already in early 2016, just a few examples: an energy analysis of the most energy-consuming plants and verifying the possibility to make a technical and economic feasibility analysis together with actions in order to optimise the systems as well as the launch of an energy audit plan and the installation of a metering network for the consumption of each product line in all Italian plants.
By choosing to go beyond the pure compliance with the legal obligations, Manni Group has extended the energy diagnosis to all Italian sites and has committed itself to designing and implementing the most suitable actions for each plant. In future, the diagnosis will be extended to all foreign production plants.

Waste and solid waste

Polyurethane and mineral wool residues and dust generated by cutting or abrasion processes, drawn in by hoods and filtrated by cyclones or bag filters, are collected and treated to reduce their volume (up to 70% in the case mineral wool). Finally, packaging waste is divided by type and sent off for reuse and recycling purposes. Only if this is not possible, it is sent off for disposal by resorting to specialised companies.

Water

The processes in the Group's plants require a modest use of water. Whenever necessary, by fully preserving the local areas where it operates, the Company analyses rainfall which revealed the absence of polluting substances attributable to its manufacturing activities.
